Alexandre Reis, WMOC mapper and planner

Military and photogrametrist, 41 years, Alexandre Reis is an orienteer since 1988, currently in the club ADFA. Up more than 20 times in the podium in National Championships in the senior level, he participated in 16 World Championships: 2 WOC, 2 WMTBOC and 12 CISM. He also has extensive experience in long multi-activities.

Which maps and courses have you planned to this WMOC? Which are the main differences between the several Model Events in the forest?
I made the maps for the Model Events in Facho, Burinhosa and Pedreanes. And I planned the Sprint Qualification and the Facho and Burinhosa Model events courses. The main difference between these two model courses is the terrain. In the first, the navigation is done primarily by relief, and the elements of this chapter selected for positions of control. In the second, there are more paths, with some sandy tracks and plenty vegetation limits.

How many years are you a mapper? How many maps? In which areas? Which was the most hard?
I am a mapper since 98. I haven't my accounts in day but certainly I did more than 100 maps and the drawn area is surely above 200 km2. I had some difficult jobs and other easier but every one gave me a lot of work. If I have to select one, perhaps the choice would be the National Absolute Championship this year in Gerês. I made several races for evidence of POM, Absolute and National Championships.

Among the foreign maps you have competed, which was the one you would like to have mapped?
Maybe those from Finland, because I think they are the most technical of the world.

What is a good mapper and a good planner?
It will be the one who is able to forward to the athlete, in the most faithful way, the competition area, according to the scale. A good planner will be the one who thinks each course as the only one of the competition, respecting all the rules.

Which were the most rewarding experiences you had as an athlete?
I have a lot of them, but I have a special memory of the Jukola relay in Finland, the O-Ringen 5 Days in Sweden, and the 1st World MTB Championship in Fontainebleau (France).
