Who is Who

On Feb 6th we have published an interview with Stefano Galletti. Later, we invited him to interview the Italian Federation' President. Here you have his interview.]
Ezio Paris, first of all let me explain to all the readers that you are not only a competitor in 2008 WMOC, but also the President of Italian Orienteering Federation. How do you feel about this double feature: competitor and a represent of the national federation?
I'm always an orienteer, an orienteer who decided to dedicate time and effort for the national federation. When I participate in a competition, I already know that I will dedicate attention and time not only as a normal runner but also as "a president" before the start, after the finish and sometimes also during the competition. But this is the way to improve my experiences for the benefit of the Italian federation. The only thing I regret: there is a speaker also known as "Stegal" who sees me from afar and always announces my name at the microphone in this way "Now near the finish line Mr. President etc., etc....". It's strange and unusual, maybe you could ask Stegal to leave me alone when I'm doing my last efforts :-)
Well.. I will do my best. What about your previous experience in Portugal? I remember we were at the "5 days da ria", some years ago.
Yes, I remember those "5 days". It was a spectacular and a well organized competition. I remember the terrain was really good, the courses and in general the organisation was perfect. This is one of the reasons why I'm going to Portugal in 2008.
Do you know if there are other orienteers still competing and representing officially their federations as president?
I really don't know. But I think that there will be some competitors representing their federation as members of a committee, or members of some national commission. So this should be the occasion to contact officially other federations. Specially the Portuguese federation.
Portugal is one of the countries competing at the "Latin nations Cup". And in 2008 this competition will be in Italy, near Asiago... what do you think about it?
Asiago: I competed in 4 or 5 WMOC, but obviously the Italian edition in Asiago is the edition I prefer. Everything was perfect, the local committee did a perfect job and I think that all the competitors in Asiago will always remember that WMOC edition. And I hope that everyone was in Italy in 2004 will comeback soon or later for another big orienteering competition. Why not for the Latin nations Cup or for the JWOC 2009 in Primiero?
After Asiago, the WMOC I preferred was the Spanish one, in Murcia... another Latin country isn't it? So maybe the kind of orienteering I like is exactly the Latin orienteering!
Mr. President, tell me something about your team: Orenteering Mezzocorona. In Portugal there will be you, Carlo Dorigati and Franco Casatta. How many national championship have you won together? And what about your wife Lucia Bragagna? And Ivana Zotta (Carlo Dorigati's wife) and Cristina Casatta (Franco Casatta's wife)?
I understand the question! Yes, we never won a national title together but I forget the number of national titles we have won individually and relays by our female team. Maybe they are stronger than us... maybe they are better orienteers than the male components of the team! But in the same way we also compete every time bravely! And I want to remember also our young boys and girls: my daughter Nausica (she competes now in Elite) and my son Lucio. Paolo Dorigati who was winner of two national titles in junior classes, and Marzia Casatta: she competes now among masters and was national champion in W35 in 2007.
What do you expect from WMOC 2008?
Nice and warm weather, fast terrain, and a good organisation. Good luck to all the competitors, see you in Portugal.
